Finger Lakes Culinary Bounty; as a member of the board, I will discuss the goals of this organization, the synergies with the Finger Lakes Wine industry, the growing culinary trend to eat foods grown locally, and the areas rich agricultural history. Discussion includes what some of the most famous foods are that were developed in the Finger Lakes , ie: French's Mustard, Jello, Archway Cookies, etc... This makes a great pre-dinner topic if you are eating in the area. A mini-food bar will be set up with local food samples provided. Cost $ 5.00/person with mini-food bar [available at the store for this price] minimum of 30 people required, $50.00 total as a dinner/guest speaker at a location you are visiting [winery, restaurant, park].

Holiday Crafts - Canandaigua Spice Comapany can offer several different craft projects for the holidays. Make a Tabletop Spice Tree, Spice Ornaments, Cookie Decorating, Garland Making, or Holiday Gift Tag Making. Cost is dependent on project. We have won the Granger Homestead Festival of Trees Peoples Choice Award for the past 2 years and have been asked to offer craft classes/projects. Granger Homestead could host, all materials would be provided and projects would fit within a 2 - 4 hour window. Cost: dependent on the project chosen. We recommend scheduling this well before the Holidays.  { I have recently gotten my wine ceritification from the NY Wine & Culinary Center and will be doing more classes including wine}.

Wine Tasting 101 - more than just tasting wine at a local winery, this class offers participants the best way to store wine, open wine bottles, choose the best stemware, a systematic way to evaluate wine, and a range of foods/occasions to utilize the wine. Handouts are provided. Class can be held at many local wineries or at a local restaraunt. 6 wines per class. Cost $8.00/person. Minimum of 30 people required.

Pairing Food with Wine Level 1: Canandaigua Spice Company will work with our neighbor, Ryan's Wine and Spirits, to pair up 4 foods with 4 wines. Informal setting. Cost $8.00/person.

Level 2: I will work with a restaurant of your choice to pair wines with the sit down dinner including local foods and discuss the food & wine choices. [I have a certification in food & wine pairings, and am a member of the Professional Chefs Association of Rochester, NY] Cost $75.00 total, there is no per person fee.

Level 3: SIPS & SAVORS DINNER I will work with a restaurant/caterer/or conference center of your choice in Ontario County to create a local menu and pair local  wines to the food. Menu would include 3-5 courses based on your budget. Each course would be introduced by the chef and I will explain why the wine compliments the course.  Cost [Dependent on your budget I may schedule events at a local venue that can accomodate larger groups. We welcome all tours to visit Canandaigua Spice Company. Any of these classes can also be scheduled after business hours if that is more convenient for your group schedule. Also be aware that if you hav ea group in the area that has extra time, you are always welcome to stop in at the store, just call and let us know you want to stop by, there is of course no fee for shopping!   Other ideas: If any of these would be of interest to you I can get you more information.

Finger Lakes Culinary Bounty has put together 4 different agricultural/culinary trails throughout the Finger Lakes. The partners range from certified farms/farm markets/pick your own/specialty food producers/retailers/restaurants/wineries. We got a grant from the state to research and promote these and have visited all of them that are on the trails so some of the work you may need to do to qualify them may be done. The trails consist of Western Finger Lakes [Conesus/Hemlock/Canadice & Canandaigua Lakes], Central Finger Lakes [Keuka/Seneca/Cayuga], Eastern Finger Lakes [Skaeneatalis/Otiso/Owaso/Onandaga] and a Southern Route that includes Binghamton/Elmira/Corning/Hammondsport.

Canandaigua Culinary Trail - see http://www.canandaiguaspice.com/ homepage and click on the tab Culinary Trails. Right now the trail consist of about 30 locations, not all of them can take a bus, but the majority can!

Tour with Activities - I have talked with several locations that offer classes and they are interested in partnering to offer a group tour of classes. ie: Liberty Cottage [Canandaigua] would offer a needle hooking class, Anne Scammel would offer a Scrap Booking Class, Brown Hound Bistro can offer a Slice it and Dice it Class - basically how a chef preps for dinner; how to use knives safely, tips and techniques used by chefs, etc..... Carriage House Quilts can offer a quilting demonstration/class. Cooking demos, we can pull together several area businesses or chefs to do demonstrations. All Things Art is able to host groups up to 60 and so is Bristol Harbour for classes. We can find other locations too. Many local merchants offer demonstrations too, you can mix and match about any classes your group may want.

Fashion Show - local apparel merchants, jewelry merchants, cosmetics & shoe merchants would host a fashion show appealing to both men and women. This could be done during a luncheon, or at a local venue downtown. Fashion show would be approximately 1 - 1/2 hours long, then a map would be provided to all attendees to visit the downtown shops. Merchants would need a date set well in advance to prepare.

Area Bed & Breakfasts are interested in offering a cookie trail. Each would bake cookies and open their B&B's for a tour. B&B's include [so far] Oliver Phelps House [Canandaigua], Bella Rose [Canandaigua] Inn on the Main [Canandaigua], Abner Adams House [Bloomfield], Morgan Samuals [Hopewell], Chalet of Canandaigua [Canandaigua],  Acorn Inn [Bristol], Vagabond Inn [Middlesex]. They also said, if this would be too many cookies, they could do a progressive trail [first B&B serves coffees & teas, second serves muffins and scones, third serves salads, 4th serves sandwiches, 5th serves cookies, 6th..........] All of these locations are bus accessible.

Garden tours - Sonnenburg, Highland Park, several West Lake Rd [Canandaigua] homes will open to garden tours, I have an open herb & rock garden for tours at my home, stop at some of the better Garden Centers [Bristol Garden Center -Victor, Steuben Landscaping -Wayland, Palmeter's - Avon] Maybe a class form Stella's on Arranging Flowers in a Vase [something simple]. This could also include a slide presentation of local gardens. I have access to over 25 national garden's slide shows. ie: Denver Botanical Garden, Atlanta Botanical Garden, NYBG.......

Bridal Tour - stop at several bridal shops [Primadonna Bridals, Antonette's Bridal both in Canandaigua, Heart to Heart Bridal -Manchester, The Wedding Dress - Geneseo] Plus stops at Reception Locations [Bristol Harbour, Letchworth State Park, Warfields, ect.] Jewelry Stores [anywhere], makeup demonstration [Mary Kay Cosmetics] and photographers, favors, etc.... Bridal shows are huge, I think this could be a potential market for a younger clientel.

Vacation Rentals - work with local real estate offices that specialize in lake front rentals and take a group rental shopping. Finger Lakes Premier Properties offers rentals on 6 Finger Lakes, Bristol Realtors would be another good options and also McMillan. A real estate agent would have to go along with the bus as the homes can't be shown without an agent.

Gaming Tour - obviously Finger Lakes Racetrack & Gaming, but maybe also an afternoon of bowling, golfing, volleyball, tennis, hiking...... Wii is becoming very popular with the older crowd because it allows for fun without the physical strain of exercise. Equipment may have to be rented or maybe some of the local adult housing complexes have this available. One of the local B&B's offers bingo or cards at their location, with snacks for a group in the afternoons [Chalet of Canandaigua].

If you need more information or would like to discuss these ideas, please call (585) 394-7840.   Hope to talk with you soon.
